Single Releases - 22/02/2010
This morning I had the awful task of cutting the singles list down to an acceptable amount, not to dissimilar from picking the teams during P.E lessons back in school. If this were a school team, it certainly would be a teenage creatine junky infested line-up.
I hope you enjoy my scribbles of what is slightly (or greatly for me) more acceptable for the charts this week.
Single Of The Week
This week has been pretty difficult to pick a team captain or in other words, a song in particular that I will rally me onto the weekend. I have tried and here goes....
The Opposite Of Adults EP - Chiddy Bang
Before attacking me for picking a recycled hit of MGMT, just insert into your stereo and blaze at top volume and tell me you wouldn't like this? Them Blue Peter 'Cook Book' instructions aside, we have a very worthy hop-hop track that is lyrically sound on an EP that has literally cutup a surf-indie-druggy classic and made it there own. Nice Job.
I predict relative 'slash' deserved success in the charts for this banger. Expect it to mash nicely into the local russian owned nightclub, selling those ghastly VK's, that all us kids seem to love going to.
Heaven Can Wait - We The Kings
Pop punk heroes 'We The King' return with another single that will instantly remind us of their 'Skyward Avenue' hit. Never a bad thing I say. They seem to have remained the same; still uplifting, still inspiring and that unchanging formula for good songs.
They have a new record out soon titled 'Smile Kid' and should in fact, be a hit for pop boppers and kids in skinny jean wearers alike. The more I listen to this song is directly proportionate to the amount of times I want to listen to it again. I think what I am trying to get at , in a not so nerdy way, is to say that it is an addictive little number. Bring on the next record.
Never Be Your Woman - Wiley featuring Emile Sand
Wiley certainly has a place in my youth. Through history (in a tour guide voice) he has an uncompromising flow that he never changed that has quite simply made him evergreen. Being green aside, the backdrop to his show has changed; garage to grime, grime to funky and now funky to mainstream pop next, perhaps?
This song is being burned out amongst my friends at the moment. Fun and friendly, and will certainly rival other hits like 'Where In My Rolex' And 'Cash In My Pocket.'
I'm Turning Into You - wheels On Fire
Although I do not have a lot of words to describe Wheels On Fire's latest release I will say one thing, and that is that it is quite simply 'Perfect.' Has all the gritty requirements of an indie song including that musical sweat and blood. It certainly gets the 'unashamed' single of the week title for me if of course I had one.
Light It Up - Blood Red Shoes
So Blood Red Shoes made a new record. Did Blood Red Shoes recreate themselves? No. Do I like them? A bit. Perhaps I am being hard, but Blood Red Shoes tend to repeat repetition in everything they do, that quite simply frazzles my brain into submission. To say they work with hooks is an industry understatement. Regardless, a decent indie rock sound transcending through-out, and difficult second record apparent in this single - still a decent listen.

Is there anything you'd like me to have a look at?
I am always interested in anything new, borrowed or blue but I don't do marriage.
Thanks to those that stayed with me through what seems like an infinity of text.
